During this season of prayer and fasting our focus is going to be on God Himself!
In that day they will say, “Surely this is our God; we trusted in him, and he saved us. This is the Lord, we trusted in him; let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation.”
– Isaiah 25:9
Our current sermon series has been looking at some of the characteristics of God, using key texts from the Old Testament book of Isaiah. We’ve been reminded to view God, using both lenses, to see that He is Saviour AND Judge, holy AND approachable. He’s Servant AND King, as well as merciful AND mighty. Over the next three days, we’re going to be zooming in on one of those texts, Isaiah 40, which beautifully unpacks just how merciful and mighty He is. Each day, we’ll be revisiting the message I preached on this theme and asking the Lord to speak to us and to stir us to pray, so that we might walk in a deeper revelation of who He is and what He wants to do in us and through us.
You might like to read the whole chapter, as in many ways it’s the pivotal turning point of the whole prophetic text – as we move from God’s challenge to His people, in the first chapters of the book, to encouragement in the later ones.
To truly trust God, we must truly know Him. It is key to our transformation as well as foundational for our discipleship – something especially pertinent with our 2023 Vision focus on ‘Radical Disciples’. As AW Tozer wrote, ‘What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us’. Knowing Him increasingly and experientially is core to enjoying the freedom and purpose that He has destined for us.
Be blessed.
