Enter into the Most Holy Place, where the Ark of the Covenant is placed, and worship before His throne.
In the Tabernacle, within the Most Holy Place, there was one final piece of ‘furniture’: the Ark of the Covenant. As we shall see in the next couple of weeks, it was symbolic of the holy presence of God. Unlike the Outer Court which was lit up by natural light, and the Holy Place, which was illuminated by the Candlestick, this inner room, the Most Holy Place was dependent on the light that would have come from the shekinah glory of God, Himself. We will explore this more in Week 3. For now, it’s important for us to recognise that this is the goal of all our worship, prayer and fasting – to encounter the very presence and glory of God.
In the original tabernacle and later the temple, there was a veil separating the Most Holy Place, from the Holy Place. This most sacred space was kept especially holy, with only one person, the High Priest, allowed to enter, only once a year. The wonder of the new covenant is that when Jesus died on the Cross, the temple curtain was torn in two, from top to bottom, symbolising that the way to the most holy presence of God was now available to all who put their trust in Jesus. Hebrews 10:19-22 beautifully reminds us that:
Therefore brothers and sisters, we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance of faith…

So, how do we position ourselves in this Most Holy Place? Bear in mind that the tabernacle is a physical picture of the greater reality in Heaven, where there is not a golden ark, but a glorious throne where our Father sits, with Jesus at His right hand. There, before the throne there are real cherubim. Day and night they never stop saying, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is and is to come. They are joined with others who fall down before him who sits on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever.

Then the focus changes to the ‘the Lamb of God’, Jesus our Saviour, and those closest to the throne are joined by more and more angels and eventually all of creation saying, To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb, be praise and honour and glory and power, for ever and ever!

- Try to take some extended time aside alone with God today. Start by thanking Jesus that it’s by His blood that we are made holy and righteous and are able to boldly enter the Most Holy Place and touch the throne of grace in our spirit.
- Use today’s song to worship Him, and then allow Him to speak to you – write down what you sense He is saying.
